📌 Project: Opposite Wall – WordPress E‑Commerce Website

🧠 Overview

Opposite Wall is a stylish online store focused on minimalist wall art, prints, frames, and wallpapers. The goal of this project was to design and build a high‑performing, scalable, SEO‑optimized WordPress e‑commerce site that reflects the brand’s artistic aesthetic while providing a smooth shopping experience.

🛠️ What I Built

Custom WordPress Theme: Developed a fully custom theme from scratch using PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript for a polished, responsive design.
WooCommerce Integration: Set up WooCommerce for the product catalog, shopping cart, checkout process, payment gateways, tax/location rules, and order management.
Custom Product Templates: Designed tailored templates for different product categories (posters, framed art, canvases) with dynamic filters for size, style, and price.
Advanced Search & Filtering: Implemented AJAX‑powered filters and search to improve product discovery and reduce friction for users browsing large catalogs.
Mobile‑First Design: Optimized every page layout for mobile and tablet first, ensuring fast load times and usability on all devices.
Performance Optimization: Configured caching, optimized images, and added lazy loading to achieve excellent Core Web Vitals scores.
SEO & Schema Markup: Added structured data (product, reviews, breadcrumbs), on‑page SEO best practices, and sitemap generation for improved visibility in search engines.
Multilingual/Localization Support: Set up language support for English and French (important for the Montreal market).

Analytics and conversion tracking (Google Analytics + enhanced e‑commerce)

🧗 Most Difficult Challenges

-Complex Filtering Across Product Variations: Building an intuitive UI for filtering posters, frames, canvases, and wallpapers with multiple attributes (size, style, format) that works quickly and avoids large database queries was one of the toughest parts. I resolved this by using optimized custom SQL queries and caching layer logic.
-Performance at Scale: With a large product catalog and high‑resolution imagery, ensuring that page load times stayed fast required extensive optimization — lazy loading, WebP image conversion, critical CSS, preloading key resources, and server‑side caching.
-Checkout Usability & Payment Integration: Integrating payment gateways while ensuring PCI compliance and minimizing cart abandonment comprised multiple rounds of user testing and custom hook development in WooCommerce.
