Reinhard College Workshop Posters

Grace Pereda

Project Overview Reinhard College, a Christian training center based in Toronto, organized two emotional and spiritual development workshops to be held on the same day at a Cineplex theatre: Breaking Chains – Inner Healing Hear from God – Learning to Listen I was commissioned to design two visually impactful posters that could promote the workshops to a broad audience—not only to Christians, but also to anyone looking for healing, clarity, or connection in their lives. The challenge was to design visuals that would communicate faith-based content without alienating non-religious viewers, and that would appeal to anyone in emotional or spiritual need. The Design Challenge Design two separate posters for two workshops held on the same day and location Keep them visually cohesive while allowing each to stand on its own Attract a broad audience—not just believers, but anyone open to personal growth Create visuals that convey hope, healing, and reflection without relying on stereotypical religious imagery Include all essential event info in a clear, readable, and professional layout suitable for print and digital formats My Creative Process Understanding the Vision I started by speaking with the client to clarify the goal of the workshops and their audience. The insight was clear: these workshops were spiritual in nature but were meant to reach a wider audience, including people who may not normally attend religious events but were curious about healing or connecting with God. Tone & Visual Direction Instead of relying on traditional religious iconography (like crosses or churches), I chose to focus on symbolic, emotional themes: For Breaking Chains, I leaned into metaphors of freedom, release, and emotional healing For Hear from God, I emphasized quiet reflection, clarity, and connection Each poster would stand on its own while visually referencing each other through color palette harmony, type treatments, and layout balance Design Execution I carefully selected fonts that felt modern yet warm—communicating seriousness with approachability The colour palettes were soft but purposeful: calming tones for Hear from God, and deeper, more intense hues for Breaking Chains, subtly reinforcing the different emotional focus of each I paid special attention to typographic hierarchy, making sure key information like time, date, and location would be easy to read even from a distance I ensured each poster could be used both digitally (social media, email promotions) and in print (theatre lobby, community boards) Results & Impact Both posters were delivered on time and well received by the client They successfully balanced faith-based messaging with universal appeal The client reported strong engagement from both believers and seekers alike The posters sparked conversations and shared across communities, helping to reach audiences outside the expected faith circle The cohesive branding helped reinforce the credibility and professionalism of Reinhard College as a training institution Why This Matters As a designer, I love working on projects that tell meaningful stories, especially those that reach beyond obvious audiences. This project demonstrates how I approach: Design with empathy Strategic visual storytelling And the ability to balance emotional appeal with clarity My goal was to help people feel something—and in doing so, inspire them to take that next step toward healing or connection. I believe that’s what good design should do.
