THE ORIGINS OF MY OWN STORY

In 2004, I had a spiritual awakening to my Afro-Brazilian roots. I sketched & painted for three years. In 2007, I compiled a book that kickstarted my art journey.

There are about 200+ illustrations. I am sharing those who have been to art festivals and in some previous portfolios.

I believe they show the consistency of the style I was able to achieve in a lapse of 3 years, where I have started to have a different perception of the spiritual and physical worlds, brought me to a new direction in my Graphic Design career.

I aimed to convey that everything in the universe is light in different frequencies and that the dark is only the space in between everything that lives and has color and life in itself.

These images were made with a black Sharpie and acrylics painted on the back of a transparent vinyl sheet.

Seeing it twenty years later, it's evident how limited the physical colors were in 2004, compared to what we can achieve now in RGB and multidimensional spaces in 2D and 3D worlds. I am so passionate about this process that I continue to test it.

Maybe one day, I can create graphics that my mind can see. In particular, to express the vibrancy of colors and the nonexistent borders between reality and beings. I will keep trying for sure!

These are scans of the original artwork pieces, upscaled with AI to look good in 2024 but kept identical to the originals.

MAKING OF MAYA 2004-2007: this is the only recording I found, it was tiny! With AI I was able to upscale to create the GIF.

The book told a story through images and simple words that would allow the viewers to make a story of their own.
I sold prints of the Maya Book in several art shows and on my website through the years... it is still in cups and posters all over!
