A Creative Director's Journey: Embracing the Future of Immersive Content

As a creative director, I've always been on the lookout for innovative technologies that can elevate my artistic vision. This year, I've discovered a game-changer that's revolutionizing my workflow: AI-powered 3D conversion tools. These cutting-edge platforms have become my secret weapon in transforming flat, two-dimensional creations into breathtaking 3D experiences.

A New Era of Storytelling: This technology isn't just changing how I work; it's revolutionizing how I tell stories. Whether it's a brand campaign or a personal art piece, I can now offer clients and audiences an immersive journey that was once only possible in my imagination.

The Magic of AI-Driven 3D Conversion

These advanced tools aren't just another addition to my toolkit; they're a gateway to a new dimension of creativity. With their AI-powered capabilities, I'm now able to:

Convert static images and videos into dynamic 3D content

Generate intricate depth maps that breathe life into flat visuals

Edit motion and depth to create truly immersive experiences

Prepare content for various XR platforms, including the latest VR and AR devices

The neural depth engines in these tools have been a revelation, allowing me to achieve the depth and transparency I've always envisioned in my mind's eye. It's like watching my imagination come to life on screen.

From CMYK to XR: A Creative Evolution

Remember those CMYK colors and low-res images from the 2000s? With these new AI tools, I'm not just updating them – I'm completely reinventing them. The ability to add multi-layered depth maps has transformed my old designs into rich, immersive scenes that transport viewers right into the heart of my creative vision.

Pushing the Boundaries of Creativity

As a creative director, I'm always looking to push boundaries. These AI-powered platforms have given me the tools to do just that. I'm now crafting cinematic experiences from what were once static designs. The customization options allow me to fine-tune every aspect, from depth intensity to focus points, ensuring that each piece perfectly captures my artistic intent.

Looking to the Future

As I continue to explore the possibilities of AI-driven 3D conversion, I'm more excited than ever about the future of creative direction. These tools have opened up a new world of possibilities, and I'm thrilled to be at the forefront of this immersive revolution.

EXAMPLES OF 2D ENHANCEMENT TO CONVERSION OF IMAGES TO 3D VIDEOS FROM MY OLDER PROJECTS

NOTE: The output of the videos is 4K, but I can only add small GIF files in Contra, only 10-12 frames per second

2011 WATERFLOWERS

WATERCOLOR AND INK ON COTTON PAPER, ORIGINAL ARTWORK, DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, 2011

In this illustration I was trying to capture the movement of water and aliveness of flowers in a world where they both morphed. In my mind I feel and see the depth and movement of this elements, but it has always been a difficult thing to express myself in a full range with limited tools, so this innovations are completely fueling my imagination and getting more order in the chaos of perception. It is truly fascinating!!

ENHANCED AND UPSCALED 4X, 2024

This was my first attempt with this new tech and I was surprised how well it created depth, movement, dimensionality and aliveness. This led me to test several old pieces and every time I change parameters, a whole different visual happens. So this is basically an intentional approach to movement that we now have the capacity to combine with AI and our creative agency to create stories and visuals not a static branding or artwork but a dynamic ever evolving, crisp, brilliant, multidimensional, and more immersive 3D experience. For those who have access to augmented reality, virtual reality & XR devices like Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest among others, try checking them out and let me know if you want me to send you the 4K videos 😉

As a creative director, I'm continually amazed by how this technology amplifies our artistic capabilities. It's not just about converting 2D to 3D; it's about unlocking new dimensions of creative expression. This tool doesn't replace our skills—it enhances them, allowing us to experiment and push boundaries in ways previously unimaginable.

2008 SAMSUNG FRIDGE ART "LIBERTAD"

ORIGINAL DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, 2008

The Quetzalcoatl (feather serpent divinity in Mexico) is going around the fridge, and meets and moves where the freezer doors bend. I wanted to create a sensation of movement and soulfulness of the storytelling in this panoramic mural, that goes around in 3 levels, bottom, mid and top.

ENHANCED AND UPSCALED 4X, 2024

Just the possibilities of upscaling artwork from old times, is bringing to life the colors that i imagined when I created it. The limitations on how we can express in detail the emotional frequencies of color is a completely different game for artists and creators. I believe this AI tech is such an advancement to our possibilities and outputs of digitized materials that come from 2D creations. Even in images of 3D pieces photography.

2D TO 3D IMMERSIVE CONVERSION, ITS MEGA CINEMATIC!!

2013 LOCALMOTION, PANORAMIC PRINTED MURAL IN VAN

iPHONE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, 2013

ENHANCED AND UPSCALED 4X, 2024

THE MOVEMENT, COLORS AND LIGHTS ARE VERY CONSISTENT, AS WELL AS SHAPE, DEPTH AND FOCUS. ALL OF THESE SETTINGS WORKING WELL TOGETHER, REALLY ALLOW THE SHAPE OF THE VAN TO SHOW.

In order to fit this GIF in this page, I had to export with only 10 frames per second, the 4K video is absolutely sharp!

THE CURVES! I love how much comes alive from lines and curves in this tech with such depth.

In this GIF the colors were reduced to a small number so that gives a flat perception, in the real output in 4K the depth and brilliance is so good!

2023 AN INTERVIEW ABOUT GENERATIVE AI OPINION

While I was beta testing several AI apps, I had an interview about it by Al Jazeera. In those experimentations I used the interview video in Runway video generator that used video input and prompt to generate. The result moved super weirdly, but one of the frames was good. That is the one I used to generate the 3D avatar video, from a youtube video. Weird. Not a bad result though. I do see the training on the Anime art in the generation.

The original generation has many mistakes in lines and shapes, but the 3D conversion actually kept them, and made them better too. A discovery.

2013 LOVING BLACKSBURG MURAL

PROFESSIONAL MEDIA PHOTOGRAPHER, DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, 2013

ENHANCED AND UPSCALED 4X, 2024

I think the photographer really captured my joy this morning! This is my favorite picture from that event. The image I got as original was a web jpg. So not too bad with the upscale, just saturated colors that can be fixed. I did notice the depth that the AI upscale process understood from the original reflex camera. The 3D movement in the immersive video below did totally capture the same feeling that the original image. This process of converting 2D to 3D video totally works as a substitute B-roll for that event that was only photographed.

The movement between background and foreground was noticeable after I converted it to GIF due to the very low amount of frames per second. The final 4K video actually creates that special aliveness in the opposite direction movement of the 2 planes, which creates a deeper depth in the video.
