User-Centric Design Advocacy in Edtech

Ana Garzon

Working at large companies such as UOL Edtech, as well as at early-stage Edtech startups like Tera, I have gained experience in implementing strategies to deliver features and new products based on customer needs. In both environments, I worked with Learning Management Systems where students and collaborators were the primary users.
Here are some learnings I have been able to apply in these experiences:
User Research: Conduct interviews, surveys, and observations to understand the diverse needs and behaviors of users in the context of their learning journey.
Understanding Personas and User Journeys: Develop personas for key user types and map their interactions with the product to identify specific needs.
Collaborative Design Processes: Involve users in the design process through workshops, usability testing, and feedback loops. Additionally, work directly with designers to create the best user experience possible.
Prototyping and Iterative Testing: Create high-fidelity prototypes for quick iterations and gather user feedback before finalizing the design.
Performance and Impact Measurement: Implement metrics such as NPS (Net Promoter Score) and CSAT (Customer Satisfaction Score) to evaluate how well the product meets educational outcomes and user needs.
