About the project

Yahoo aimed to celebrate and amplify Black voices in the art and tech sectors through an interactive experience. The project was completed in a tight timeframe of two weeks, with Dexter Washington from Crafted Studios as the Creative Director, Sean McCall from Yahoo as the Product Director, Daryl Chong as the Project Manager, and myself serving as the Creative Developer and Technical Consultant.

Objectives & Challenges

Yahoo's primary objective was to create an interactive platform that would not only celebrate but also elevate Black voices in art and technology. They also wanted a template system in Webflow that could be reused and hosted in their own secure environment. The main challenge was to allow Yahoo's team to build in Webflow and then publish it to their own environment, bypassing Webflow's hosting.







Utilizing Webflow

Webflow's user-friendly, no-code platform made it easy for non-engineers to make content edits. The interactive experience page was enriched with Webflow interactions, which seamlessly integrated with the art direction provided by Dexter Washington.



Execution

The first week was dedicated to developing the initial page for the experience and gathering feedback. The second week focused on implementing changes and providing technical consulting to Yahoo. A solution was devised to enable Yahoo to publish the pages created in Webflow directly to their AWS environment, eliminating the need for engineering involvement until the launch.









Results

The project was a resounding success, providing significant exposure for the artists involved. Sean McCall, the Product Director at Yahoo, praised the quality of work and the collaborative nature of the project, stating, "Dexter and Chris are top-notch. Working together was quick and collaborative throughout the design and build process. They delivered quality work to-spec and also provided insights on how to improve our site and uplevel the experience for users."



Lessons Learned & Key Takeaways

The project demonstrated the versatility of Webflow in creating interactive experiences that can be hosted outside its environment. It also highlighted the importance of a well-planned execution strategy, especially when working within a tight timeframe. The client's satisfaction and the successful deployment of the project serve as strong indicators of its success. This case study serves as a blueprint for those looking to leverage Webflow for interactive media and tech projects.
