Alpro Foundation - Strengthening the brand authority

The Alpro Foundation, an entity dedicated to advancing the understanding of plant-based nutrition among scholars and healthcare practitioners, was hindered by a website that was not only outdated but also difficult to navigate and read, offering a subpar user experience (UX). With the intervention of the Dodonut team, the site underwent a significant makeover in its user interface (UI) and UX, reinforcing the Foundation’s credibility in the nutrition community and attracting more visits from emerging researchers.

Established in 1996 in Belgium, the Alpro Foundation is a non-profit, independent organization with a mission to advance understanding in plant-based nutrition, health, and sustainability. The foundation offers a plethora of resources through its website, designed to assist academics, healthcare professionals, and students. Furthermore, it fosters innovative scientific exploration by disbursing grants and recognizing emerging scientists dedicated to conducting research in the realm of plant-based nutrition.

Refresh the website’s appearance and functionality by overhauling its UI and UX,

Construct the website anew utilizing Jamstack architecture,

Establish a reputable and reliable presence as a scientifically-based, independent entity, thereby solidifying its authority within the nutritional sector,

Enhance the navigation experience for users,

Present content in a manner that is both clear and easily readable,

Draw the attention and visits of academic influencers and newcomers to the website.

The Dodonut team had a chief objective: crafting a website for the Alpro Foundation that was not only visually appealing and user-friendly on both desktop and mobile platforms but also aligned with the Foundation's current needs and expectations. This was accomplished through collaborative efforts which began with an informative workshop with the Alpro Foundation team. During this session, we gathered vital data, reassessed prevailing assumptions, and defined present requirements through comprehensive research and discovery processes.

Our responsibilities encompassed:

Addressing and resolving UX (user experience) challenges,

Undertaking a rigorous UX research phase that included in-depth interviews with key stakeholders,

Developing a new sitemap and wireframes,

Establishing the UI visual style applicable to both the website and mobile platforms,

Designing components that would seamlessly integrate with initiatives by the Bejamas development team,

Incorporating sustainability features within the website,

Implementing recommendations based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Through our diligent work, we not only recommended but also implemented solutions that optimized user experience, sustainability, accessibility, and overall website performance.

We successfully developed a High Fidelity Prototype tailored for both desktop and mobile as our concluding deliverable. The Minimum Viable Product (MVP) version of the website was promptly rolled out, with additional features currently under development. Our iterative process led us to devise the ideal design solutions for Alpro Foundation’s revamped website. The new design not only reflects the organization's commitment to scientific rigor but also underscores its credibility and reliability in endorsing and undertaking independent research.

Our efforts have been instrumental in addressing the initial challenges faced by the website. With a visually engaging design, enhanced functionalities, and a deep understanding of the nuances in the nutrition and academic sectors, we've created a platform that beckons professionals to explore its rich content. Visitors are now more inclined to engage with the valuable knowledge articles available and to take advantage of the supporting grants offered by the organization for their initiatives.
