Day six of my creative daily challenge: A hero page for a bespoke artisanal coffee roastery.
The title was all the information that was included in the prompt, so I had ultimate freedom with the name, styles, art direction, everything. I started off with some research on the history of coffee and then went on to create a moodboard, buzz words and colour palette.
The aesthetic I was aiming for was "desert at dusk / post golden hour", a kind of quiet, secluded, liminal space of a desert just before dark. What I really wanted to do was avoid any overt or common-place coffee associations and rather focus on all the surrounding sensory experiences: the combination of smooth and grainy textures, the movement (and stillness), the personal ritual. In the process a larger concept for this "company" formed, where the core ethos is to honor the personal taste of the client and to create custom blends that have their own name and art direction involved to make it truly bespoke - a personally tailored collaboration of coffee and art.
I kind of fell in love with the idea, and wish I was more of an entrepreneur to make it happen, but we'll stay in the world of fiction for now :)
