SUBJECTS® — an NFT drop that reads like a film

Client: Subjects (subjectsworld.com) — an art project by Baby Teeth (London artist and designer; previously Head of Graphics for Burberry, Heron Preston and Maharishi, studio work for N·E·R·D, Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem) and Sutter Systems.

The challenge

By the time Subjects launched, every NFT project had the same landing page: a grid of avatars, a roadmap, a Discord button. Baby Teeth's whole positioning was the opposite — a decade of fashion and youth-culture credibility poured into an art project, not a speculative asset. The site had to sell the project the way a fashion house drops a collection: atmosphere first, mechanics second, and no visual overlap with the thousand mint pages before it.

What we built

A scroll-driven cinematic experience rather than a mint page:
Editorial scale. The SUBJECTS® wordmark fills the viewport edge to edge with full-bleed film footage inset into the letterforms — the opening frame reads as a magazine cover, not a dApp.
A narrative scroll. The page unfolds like a title sequence: street photography, wheat-pasted posters of the project's artwork on city walls, the character reveal emerging as you scroll — the culture the project comes from, shown rather than claimed.
Mechanics without the casino. The mint structure (free first mint, optional paid second, allowlist and public phases) is presented in the same calm editorial voice, with OpenSea and the Owners Manual linked once — no countdown timers, no gas-war urgency.
Credibility where it counts. The "Who is Baby Teeth?" section carries the résumé — Burberry, Heron Preston, Maharishi, Kendrick Lamar — because in this market the artist's decade of real work IS the differentiator.
Built as a React single-page app, with the scroll choreography and media loading tuned so the film-like pacing holds together.

The decisions that made it work

Atmosphere before mechanics. The mint details live deep in the scroll, after the world of the project has been established — the reverse of every standard drop page, and exactly the order a fashion audience expects.
Show the culture, don't cite it. Wheat-pasted posters, street scenes, film grain — the project's youth-culture roots are the visual material itself, not adjectives in the copy.
Calm sells scarcity better than urgency. The sold-out drop is stated the way a gallery lists a sold work — the confidence of the presentation did the marketing.
