Project Overview

KUMACHA is a modern matcha shop located in Turnberry Quay, Clonmel (E14 9GY, United Kingdom). The brand centers on serving authentic, premium ceremonial-grade matcha sourced directly from Japan, ranging from hot ceremonial whisks to vibrant iced lattes and signature experimental flavors.

The client envisioned a brand identity that feels playful and friendly without losing the grounded, authentic soul of a premium matcha brand. To achieve this, the core challenge was to honor the deep calmness of traditional tea rituals while infusing a fresh, youthful energy. The solution is anchored by a fully customized logotype seamlessly integrated with a bear character, where the letter "M" is stylized as the signature top silhouette of the bear. This thoughtful geometry perfectly balances shareable, lighthearted charm with a premium, intentional aesthetic tailored for a new generation of matcha lovers

To increase brand intimacy and visual memory, I illustrated a whimsical, puffy character featured throughout the assets: shown holding a chasen (whisk), enjoying a bowl, and welcoming guests.

Packaging Execution

The packaging design for the KUMACHA cans and bottles showcase premium retail aesthetics with a friendly, lifestyle-centric charm. The ceremonial-grade matcha powder is housed in sleek, industrial matte-silver tins wrapped in a vibrant, textured matcha-green label.
