Five Tips for a Productive Weekend.

Do you ever feel like you don’t utilize your weekends enough? You know, that feeling like you could have accomplished more? I know, I know, “accomplishing more” isn’t exactly the word anyone who has worked tirelessly through the week wants in their vocabulary for the weekend but here is the thing, if your weekdays are packed with an ample amount of workload, you really won’t want to take your weekends lightly. Why ? Because asides the fact that weekends are for unwinding, putting your feet up, Netflixing and chilling with (or without that special somebody), dinner date and girl time (or alone time, whichever resonates with you), it might be wise to also use your weekend to clean up after the previous work week and prepare for the coming work week because trust me you don’t want to bump into “Monday” . It’s always better to walk in prepared for “Monday”. So hence I use the word “productive weekend”. In case you’re wondering where to start or what to do, don’t worry I’ve got you covered. Here are my five favorite tips to help you have productive weekend:
Sleep in, meditate and exercise.
Nothing screams leisure time like sleeping in. If you work a regular 9-5 or you are a business owner ( which is even more hectic), you probably wake up really early during the week to meet up with work. So it is totally essential to sleep in on weekends that you don’t have early appointments. It just tells your brain to “relax”. It can be 2-3 hours past your regular wake up time or just an hour, but make sure you stay in bed a little longer, it’s soothing trust me. It just takes out weekday pressure.
Once you're up, make yourself your favorite morning tea. Please not coffee. Green tea, lemon tea, chocolate tea (if you’re a sweet tooth like me). Just have that while you meditate or have your quiet time, this just puts your mind at ease and calms you enough for the rest of the. You know due to the work rush you may not be able to do this on weekdays, so on weekends just enjoy that breezy moment of stillness and silence in your favorite spot in your house. Might be your balcony, or that comfy couch in the Corner. Just take the time to unwind, let go of negative energy from the previous week if you need to (I mean cry if you must, it’s your moment).
Next up: Exercise. Most jobs are monotonous and mostimes we don’t get to move our body much or even exercise before going to work. So weekend workouts are important to keep you fit and flexible. So go on, hit the gym or join your favorite workout coach on YouTube and trust me after the workout and rest you’ll be feeling refreshed.
Clean up;
Yes, clean up. Do that laundry, clean your space, unclog that purce or work bag, wipe that dust off your tv and tables, take out that trash, do those dishes, take down those cobwebs. Whatever it is, clean up. I know that’s not the word most of us want to hear, but trust me cleaning up your space has a way of unclogging your mental space leaving you feeling actually energized through it’s purposefulness. An organized and clean space helps you think clearly and can increase productivity. You’ll also feel relaxed and fulfilled afterwards. So clean up.
Eat a healthy meal;
Most times due to the busyness of the work week, you may not have taken your meals seriously, skipping some, eating some, eating junk or just whatever you can get your hands on during a 30 mins lunch break. So, make it a point to eat a whole meal during the weekend. By whole I mean a food reach in the complete 6 classes of food. Give yourself that treat. Take fruits, drink enough water and just give your internal organs a treat. This will leave you feeling full and strong.
Prepare for the next week;
Another important thing. You have to put yourself together for the coming week. Yes! Remember how we said we don’t want to “ bump into Monday”? Yeah.. this is that step. Pick your outfits ( trust me it makes getting ready during the week easy), book those work rides or make sure your car is in driving condition ( if you drive), make your hair, have a shave or hair cut, whatever, just prepare for the next week. It leaves you feeling purposeful and ready for the next week. An advice I usually give is : don’t get wasted on the weekend ( I personally think it’s a waste) especially Sundays, because trust me you don’t want to wake up to your head throbbing while feeling sick to your stomach from a hangover on a Monday morning. Plus you can have a lot of fun on your weekend, why waste it on hangovers. So put yourself together.
Do something you actually enjoy;
Last but not the least, enjoy yourself. You work hard so you deserve it. Do something that you actually like. Hang out with friends, call or visit loved ones, cook ( if that’s what you enjoy doing), play that game, go for a walk, read that novel, watch that show you’ve been putting off, just do something you love. Because we only get to live once so make the ride worth it. So… Smile, laugh, talk, sing… shine. It would increase your productivity and leave you feeling accomplished and satisfied. Just breathe. You’ve got this!!.
