ANTM 2.0

In my Culture of Images course (DART 441), we are assigned to create a personal project for our final project entitled "Challenging Representations and Social Scripts".

I wanted to create a website inspired by the hit 2010's teen drama series called "Gossip Girl" and the reality tv show "Big Brother", whilst using the modeling reality show "America's Next Top Model".

Based on our weekly lecture theme choice, in my case I chose "Feminism", I wanted to further highlight both spectrum of the positive and negative impact that the show provides to its viewers and most importantly the Models. We talked about how the media can either reinforce or challenge societal standards, especially around beauty and women’s roles. That got me thinking about ANTM’s history. Back in the 2000s, it was groundbreaking in some ways, but it also received a lot of backlash for setting unrealistic beauty standards and focusing too much on appearance. Models were often boxed into stereotypes, and the show’s messaging didn’t always support diversity or body positivity.

The proposal i've pitched was; "With America’s Next Top Feed, I wanted to create something that opens up those conversations while modernizing the format. By designing an interactive website, I’m giving fans a voice—they can vote on challenges, share opinions, and feel like they’re part of the journey. At the same time, it highlights the pressures models face, especially in a world where technology amplifies everything. The 24/7 live streams, for example, are meant to make people think about the surveillance culture we live in. Models aren’t just judged on the runway anymore; their entire lives can be scrutinized online."

Below are the final results of the websites visual layout, and I'd hope to continue this project to make into a website, and interactive for the curious audience that wants to experience this other perspective of the use of media and reality tv live.
