1/3 The 13th Door The Thirteenth Door was part one of a three part assignment for my Illustration specialisation course.  For this assignment the focus was on a combination of manual and digital techniques, with a special emphasis on manually created textures and manual collaging, only using digital programs for the final touches, adjustments to composition and size and added text.
The story and the themes are from the book 'Mese Gyár', which is a book that is used specifically for inspiring creative projects. In the book there are many one paragraph stories, once one is chosen the participant pulls three random words from the book and must create an illustration that encorporates those random words with the chosen story.
Here for example, my words were Black Knight, Match stick, and Telephone, with the base story being that of a secret 13th door hidden in a castle.
2/3 Night at the Museum This is the second part of this assignment.  The protocol on this assignment was slightly different to the first, where we didn't choose random words, but rather had to use the information provided in the given text. In this case it was the character of Marie, the fact that she was stuck in a museum overnight, that there was a doe, and that there is something (anything, but only we as the illustrators know) in the museum with Marie.  I chose to make this a museum of astronomy.
3/3 The Cover  The last part of the assignment was to create a cover for the book, again, using manual techniques to create the textures and shapes we wanted to work with. I took a literal approach to the illustration of the cover, seeing as the title of the book translates to Story Factory. Using many... many hand cut cogs and punched out circles to create the overall effect.
