View details
A mobile-first prescription benefit portal that helps members check drug costs, find in-network pharmacies, view claims, and access a digital benefit ID card — All in one place.

Overview

Product: Prescription benefit portal for plan members
Primary users: employees / insurance members (including caregivers and older members)
Goal: reduce confusion and effort when navigating pharmacy benefits (cost, coverage, ID card, claims, pharmacy access)
PLATFORM
Mobile / Web
MY ROLE
Sr. Product Designer
TYPE
UX Optimisation
FOCUS
make it simple for end users

My role (Sr. Product Designer)

Owned end-to-end UX for core member flows (research → IA → wireframes → UI → handoff).
Partnered with product + engineering to translate complex benefit data into clear, scannable UI.
Drove accessibility and trust patterns (readability, error states, compliance cues) for a broad user base.

The problem (what members struggled with)

Unknown medicine costs: before pickup → surprise bills and frustration.
ID cards + plan details: scattered across paper mail/employer portals → not available when needed.
No single source of truth: for members juggling multiple plans.
Claims history: hard to find/export → pain during tax filing and reimbursement.

What I designed (key solutions)

Drug cost lookup: search drug → select dosage → see plan-specific cost before visiting the pharmacy.
Digital benefit card: instant access + Apple Wallet/print option to eliminate “I forgot my card.”
In-network pharmacy finder: location-aware results filtered to covered pharmacies only.
Claims & history: exportable/shareable history with a financial summary optimized for tax/reimbursement use.
Drug interaction check: add 2+ medications to flag potential issues (especially helpful for caregivers).

Impact (why it mattered)

Lower friction: cost (cost comparison between medicine) + pharmacy search reduced to seconds.
Fewer support calls: “is this pharmacy in-network?” and “what will this cost?” questions reduced.
Higher member confidence: card access + clear benefit info improved trust during high-stress moments.

Design decisions (how I think)

Kept information easy to scan: Simplified complex benefit details using clear layouts and only showing additional information when needed.
Made it easy for everyone to use: Improved readability, larger touch areas, and reduced confusion for users of all experience levels.
Built user trust: Highlighted privacy, security, and compliance information in places where users naturally expect to see it.
Designed with development in mind: Followed iOS best practices to make implementation smoother and reduce development effort.

Low-Fidelity Wireframes — Initial Ideas

Structure-first, grayscale wireframes used to align on layout and information hierarchy before any visual design. Each screen is annotated with the reasoning behind its key decisions.
01 · Login / Registration — auth entry point
02 · Claims (List) — claim history with cost total
03 · Claim Detail. single prescription breakdown
04 · Benefits — Financials — deductible & accumulators
05 · Benefits Details — digital ID card & coverage
06 · Drug Pricing - First time user — cost lookup before the pharmacy
07 · Drug Pricing — Recent — recently viewed
08 · Drug Interaction — multi-drug safety check
09 · Pharmacy Locator (Map) — spatial view
10 · Pharmacy Locator (List) — in-network search
11 · More — secondary actions, legal & sign-out

Final Screens — Annotated

The shipped high-fidelity screens with every core function called out and explained the bridge from wireframe intent to delivered product.
01 · Login / Registration
02 · Claims (List)
03 · Claim Detail
04 · Benefits — Financials
05 · Benefits — Details
06 · Drug Pricing
07 · Drug Pricing — Recent
08 · Drug Interaction
09 · Pharmacy Locator (Map)
10 · Pharmacy Locator (List)
11 · More

Key Learnings

This project reinforced the importance of empathy in healthcare design. Users interacting with healthcare products are often dealing with uncertainty, urgency, or stress. Thoughtful UX decisions can significantly reduce friction and create a stronger sense of trust and reassurance.
I also learned how simplifying language, improving information hierarchy, and prioritizing user intent can dramatically improve complex digital experiences.
