De Nieuwe Gemeente - Church Branding
De Nieuwe Gemeente (DNG) is a modern Dutch church community seeking a refreshed visual identity that reflects its inclusive and forward-thinking approach. The goal was to design a logo that respects their history while embracing a contemporary, welcoming aesthetic.
Our challenge was to create a timeless yet meaningful mark that resonates with their community and values.

Design Approach
Exploring the Concept
Initially, we aimed to merge a reference to the church building with the symbol of a tree—representing life, growth, and connection. However, during the design process, we realized that the combination wasn’t as strong or impactful as we had envisioned. This prompted us to shift our approach, focusing instead on a more refined and symbolic representation of their identity.

Refining the Direction
A key breakthrough came from a conversation with the client, where they emphasized the unique architectural shape of their current church. This insight led to the development of a logo mark inspired by that shape, seamlessly integrating a sense of heritage into the new identity. To enhance its modern appeal, we incorporated a vivid gradient—symbolizing DNG’s dynamic, inclusive, and evolving community. I visualized this discovery in the below image.

Final Design and Visual Identity System
The final result is a strong, simple, and meaningful design that truly captures De Nieuwe Gemeente’s essence. The logo serves as the foundation of a broader design system, ensuring consistency across various applications.
