Hal’s mission is to democratize access to blockchains enabling anybody to connect them with centralized technologies, in a few clicks, no code needed.

Thanks to their low-code and cross chain Streams, Pipelines and Notify platforms, developers, IT companies and leading DeFi protocols can now activate blockchain data, automate Web3 workflows and support dApps with governance, trading and compliance challenges.

As the solo designer, I worked with some amazing people in product and engineering, and also partnered with stakeholders to design a delightful product experience for developers to build amazing products.

When I joined the team, there were some challenges I was called in to help solve.

For one, developers found it challenging to power their frontend dapps with blockchain data, which affected their user-engagement and customer satisfaction.

Also, the existing user interface was functional but presented some usability issues for users.

No existing Design System to improve consistency and efficiency in building

The company was evolving into a powerhouse for No-code Web3 Developer Tools and the website needed to reflect that.

Through user interviews and competitive analysis, I was able to identify the best practices and opportunities for improvement and design a solution that met the user needs and the business goals.

The impact that followed these improvements caught the attention of ConsenSys, who recognized the value of the platform and decided to acquire Hal.xyz, making it part of their portfolio of blockchain technology companies.

One of the biggest challenges for developers was setting up filtered blackchain data streams . To address this, we built a powerful blockchain data listening automation feature called Hal Streams.

Streams enables users to create custom alerts and notifications based on specific blockchain data criteria, such as transaction volume or wallet activity, with a simple UI.

This helps developers save time and resources in powering their daaps with realtime and historical blockchain data.

To design Streams, I conducted extensive user discovery research, which involved interviewing users to understand their needs, pain points, and preferences. I also analyzed the existing blockchain data automation tools to identify the gaps and opportunities for improvement. This research helped me create a user-friendly interface and develop the right functionalities that catered to the user's needs.

84% task completion rate (from unmoderated usability testing).

Increased user satisfaction: The Streams feature was well received by users with a satisfaction score of 80% and contributed to an increase in user satisfaction by 30%.

Most importantly developers were able to increase their Daap's user engagements by empowering their end users with up-to-date with the blockchain data that was important to them.

Building the design system presented an opportunity to;

It was time for Hal to position herself as a powerhouse for No-code Web3 Developer Tools and the website needed to reflect that.

I worked closely with Christopher who was the Chief Growth Officer (and fren) and it was such a delight.

Our primary objectives were:

To take a content-driven approach to unlock the potentials of effective communication shaped by delightful designs.

To ensure that the illustrations were more functional than expressive, so that developers understand abstract concepts.
