My Role

As a UI/UX Designer, I was responsible for the end-to-end design process, from conducting user research and creating wireframes to developing high-fidelity prototypes and collaborating with developers for implementation. I worked closely with a team of product managers, developers, and other designers to ensure the project’s success.

About foundit

Foundit is a leading online platform dedicated to helping users find their ideal jobs by offering personalized job recommendations and a robust suite of career resources. The platform caters to a diverse audience, including recent graduates, seasoned professionals, and employers seeking top talent.

Problem Statement

The existing profile page on foundit had several critical issues that were negatively impacting user engagement and overall satisfaction:
Complex Navigation: Users found it difficult to navigate through different sections of their profile, leading to frustration and incomplete profiles.

Cluttered Interface: The page was overcrowded with information, making it hard for users to focus on important tasks such as updating their resume or adding new skills.

Inconsistent Design: Inconsistencies in design elements and styles created a disjointed user experience, reducing the overall aesthetic appeal of the page.
Lack of Personalization: The profile page did not effectively utilize user data to offer personalized recommendations or insights, which could help users improve their profiles and job search outcomes.

Poor Mobile Experience: The profile page was not optimized for mobile devices, resulting in a subpar experience for users accessing the platform on their smartphones.

Objective

The primary goals of the profile page redesign were to:
Improve User Engagement: Enhance the overall user experience to increase the time users spend on the profile page and their interaction with key features.

Enhance Usability: Simplify navigation and reduce information overload to make it easier for users to update and manage their profiles.

Ensure Consistency: Create a cohesive design language that is consistent across all elements of the profile page to improve the visual appeal and user experience.
Increase Personalization: Utilize user data to offer personalized recommendations and insights that help users optimize their profiles and job search.

Optimize for Mobile: Ensure the profile page is fully responsive and provides an excellent user experience on all devices, especially mobile.

Research

To understand user needs and pain points, we conducted comprehensive user research using a combination of the following methods:

Surveys: We distributed surveys to a broad segment of foundit users, gathering quantitative data on their experiences with the current profile page. Key questions focused on usability, satisfaction, and areas needing improvement.

Findings: The survey revealed that 65% of users found the profile page cluttered, and 70% felt it lacked intuitive navigation.

Interviews: In-depth interviews were conducted with a smaller, representative group of users, including both job seekers and employers. These interviews provided qualitative insights into specific frustrations and desired features.
Findings: Users highlighted difficulties in locating key sections like resume updates and skill additions. Employers noted the challenge in quickly assessing candidate profiles due to inconsistent formatting.

Usability Testing: We observed users interacting with the current profile page to identify usability issues. This involved both remote and in-person testing sessions where users were given tasks to complete while their actions were recorded.
Findings: Usability testing uncovered frequent navigation errors, with users often getting lost or confused. Heatmaps showed low interaction with secondary sections, indicating they were either overlooked or deemed unimportant.

User Personas and Journeys: We developed detailed user personas and mapped out user journeys to better understand the different ways users interact with the profile page and what they need at each stage.

Insights: This exercise highlighted the need for personalized guidance and clearer pathways for different user types, such as new graduates versus experienced professionals.

Competitive Analysis

To inform our redesign, we analyzed the profile pages of leading competitors in the job search and career development space. This competitive analysis focused on identifying best practices and features that could enhance foundit's profile page.
 Key Findings:

LinkedIn: Strong emphasis on personalization with tailored suggestions for profile improvements and job recommendations based on user data.

Indeed: Simplified and clean design with clear navigation paths, making it easy for users to update their profiles and find relevant job postings.

Naukri: Detailed profile sections that encourage users to add comprehensive information, enhancing their visibility to employers.

Wellfound: Mobile-optimized interface with a focus on quick updates and easy access to key features.

Takeaways:
Personalization: Incorporate personalized recommendations and insights to help users optimize their profiles.

Simplified Navigation: Streamline the navigation structure to reduce user frustration and make profile management more intuitive.

Clean and Consistent Design: Adopt a clean, consistent design language to improve usability and visual appeal.

Mobile Optimization: Ensure the profile page is fully responsive and provides a seamless experience on mobile devices.

Why a Complete Profile Matters?

A well-enriched 💯 user profile is crucial because the more detailed and complete it is, the better it becomes for recruiters to find the right candidates.

‘Improving Profile Use and Sharing’
