Project Summary:

Empowered by a commitment to social impact, I undertook the responsibility at Bridges to Science to revolutionize their digital footprint. The objective was clear: enhance the organization’s online presence and create an immersive experience for their science festival attendees. My role as a front-end web developer was pivotal in achieving this goal, involving the conversion of a Figma design into a responsive, visually appealing, and highly functional WordPress theme.

Tasks and Achievements:

Responsive WordPress Theme Development: Leveraging my expertise in HTML5, CSS3 (utilizing Tailwind CSS for efficiency), JavaScript, and PHP, I transformed the intricate Figma design into a custom WordPress theme. Attention to detail and seamless integration of design elements ensured a visually captivating website.
Collaboration for Creative Alignment: Close collaboration with the design team was integral. I ensured that creative visions harmonized seamlessly with online experiences. The outcome was a website that not only looked stunning but also functioned flawlessly, capturing the essence of the organization’s mission.
Strategic Training Initiatives: Conducting extensive training sessions, I empowered staff members to independently manage and update content using the Advanced Custom Field (ACF) plugin on WordPress. This strategic initiative resulted in substantial cost savings amounting to $16,822. Redirecting these funds back to the science festival made it possible to offer the event free of charge to all 400 attendees, fostering community engagement and learning.

Outcomes and Impact:

Enhanced Communication and Accessibility: The new website became a central hub, improving communication with beneficiaries and offering easy access to information about STEM programs.
Community Building and Advocacy: By fostering a community of advocates and volunteers, the website became a catalyst for bridging educational opportunity gaps. Volunteers and advocates found an accessible platform to contribute to the organization’s cause.
Financial Efficiency and Social Impact: The strategic training initiative not only empowered the organization but also led to significant cost savings. Redirecting these funds toward the science festival exemplified the dual impact: financial efficiency and the ability to offer a transformative event to the community.

Technologies Used:

Front-end: HTML5, CSS3 (Tailwind CSS), JavaScript
Back-end: PHP (WordPress)
Software: Figma

Conclusion:

The transformation of Bridges to Science's online presence signifies more than just a website upgrade; it represents a holistic approach to community engagement and empowerment. By harmonizing design creativity, technical expertise, and strategic initiatives, this project demonstrates the transformative power of digital platforms. It not only enhances the organization’s outreach but also enables impactful events that resonate within the community, ultimately reinforcing the organization’s commitment to fostering education, inclusivity, and social change.
