Publishing 100 blog posts helped me build backlinks for brands like Flodesk, Happyscribe, TestGorilla, SEON, Osano, AppCues, and many more.
Company: Skale
Skale is a SaaS SEO agency that offers SaaS SEO Management services, SEO Content services, SaaS Link Building, and Website Migration services.
Supervised by: Donna Gleize, Off-Page Content Manager.
Role: Off-page SEO Content Writer
Skale wanted a terrific writer who could write blog posts the most appealing and strategic way, to build links and drive organic search for their clients.
They wanted someone who had a great understanding of search engine optimization(SEO), keyword research, and link building.
They also needed someone who understood brand tones, could adjust to writing for various B2B SaaS niches, and could adapt to the style guides of various blogs and brands.
Drum rollsssssss🤯🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
I was the perfect writer for the role!
Skale has a very strict style guide that showed certain guidelines like using sentence case for H2s, using recent and relevant statistics, including links and anchor texts strategically, and including internal links.
I read through the style guide and made sure to keep it in my Notion for easy retrieval.
I also read the blogs on the Skale website to understand what was ideal and spoke with my editor when I wasn't sure of something.
When you've written lots of blog posts, it's easy to become complacent and do the bare minimum. But, I made sure to bring in my best for every piece irrespective of the client.
I researched every client and blog I was to write for, made sure to replicate their brand tone, and wrote every piece with the search intent and target audience in mind. I also analyzed the SERPs result for the target keyword I was given.
I used the result of my SERP analysis to create unique, detailed pieces that were more informative and linkable than what was already on the SERPs.
Storytelling was my trademark when it came to writing engaging pieces. I led with a story that captured the pain points of the reader and continued by stating how relevant the piece was to avoid that pain point.
These story-driven introductions fetched me glowing reviews from the content strategists and editors.
I'll be lying to say there was no bad feedback.
There were times when I didn't follow the rules or style guidelines for writing a piece.
After receiving bad feedback, I would add that to my edit note for each client. I created a checklist of things to look out for before submitting a draft and it saved me a lot of heart ache.
I had 1:1 sessions with Donna when I didn't do everything right and needed reassurance. She also sent Loom videos explaining her feedback to me and encouraging the things I did well.
I made sure to not repeat mistakes and implement the feedback I'd gotten in subsequent pieces.
In my 2+ years at Skale, here are a few things I achieved.
Donna (my content manager) was one of the best people to work with. Her editing skills and attention to details is out of this world, and she helped me get better at my craft.
Donna sent Loom videos to explain concepts, hopped on 1:1 calls, and even helped review my freelance writing portfolio at one point!
Her recommendation is invaluable and one of the best gifts I received while working for Skale.🥹💕
Here are some of the blog posts I wrote while I worked at Skale. There are tons of them (100+) but this is a list of some of my favorite pieces for different niches. Enjoy!💕
