Upvotely - Feature Voting Made Simple

Overview

Upvotely is a premium feature voting platform designed to help product teams collect user feedback, prioritize feature requests, and build transparent roadmaps. This project showcases my ability to deliver sophisticated, production-ready web applications with distinctive design and polished interactions.

The Problem

Early-stage startups waste precious engineering hours building features users don't actually want. Without a clear feedback loop, product teams guess at priorities instead of letting users guide the roadmap. Traditional survey tools are clunky, and GitHub issues are too technical for non-developers.

The Challenge

I Need to Design and develop a feature voting solution that:
Stands out with a premium, editorial aesthetic—not generic SaaS
Delivers instant, satisfying feedback through thoughtful animations
Handles real-time voting with optimistic updates and error recovery
Works flawlessly across mobile, tablet, and desktop
Feels fast, polished, and production-ready

My Approach

I studied successful feedback tools like Canny and ProductHunt's upvoting system, but wanted something simpler - a single-page board where users can submit ideas and vote in seconds.
Key decisions:
Real-time voting with localStorage spam prevention
Live activity feed to create FOMO and social proof
Editorial design (not the typical blue gradient boards)
No login required - zero friction for users

Intentional typography

Paired Instrument Serif (a refined display font) with Satoshi (a modern sans-serif) to create contrast that feels both contemporary and timeless. Monospace accents add a technical edge to labels and metadata

The Solution:

Upvotely is a clean, modern voting board where users submit feature requests and upvote what matters most. Features automatically sort by votes, giving product teams instant clarity on what to build next.
Features:
Real-time voting with duplicate prevention
Live activity ticker showing recent submissions
Responsive design (works on mobile/desktop)
Status badges (Planned, In Progress, Completed)

Interaction Design

Every Touchpoint is considered:
Buttons animate with a sliding fill effect on hover
Cards lift with crisp shadows on interaction
Vote counts update with spring physics
A live counter in the hero section simulates real-time activity
Toast notifications confirm every user action

Performance-First Animation

All animations run at 60fps using GPU-accelerated CSS transforms and Framer Motion. The infinite logo marquee, staggered list reveals, and counting animations feel smooth without sacrificing performance.
Key features:
Real-time voting with spam prevention
Clean, modern interface that works on any device
Live activity feed showing recent submissions and votes
Auto-sorting by popularity
Dark mode support
Zero learning curve - anyone can use it

Built with:
Next.js 14 + TypeScript
Supabase for real-time data sync
Tailwind CSS for custom design
Deployed on Vercel

The Impact:

Upvotely gives product teams clarity on what their users actually want. Instead of building in the dark, teams can see demand in real-time and prioritize accordingly.
Potential impact:
Reduces wasted engineering time on unwanted features
Increases user engagement through public feedback
Helps teams build products users love
Use cases:
SaaS companies gathering user feedback
Open source projects prioritizing features
Indie hackers validating ideas

The Result

A polished, production-grade platform that demonstrates what's possible when design and engineering work together. The editorial aesthetic creates immediate differentiation, while the technical implementation ensures reliability and performance at scale
