Horizon Digital Wealth Management Platform Design

People spend years building digital wealth for themselves and their families, yet in a moment of uncertainty, everything can disappear. When asset owners lose access or pass unexpectedly, their investments are often lost forever not because they failed, but because no one else knew they existed or how to access them.

Horizon was created to ensure that wealth built over a lifetime doesn’t vanish in silence.

From research, many users:

Invest across multiple platforms with no single place to track everything

Lack knowledge about digital inheritance or reminder systems

Rely on unsafe methods like sharing passwords or recovery phrases

Have no trusted process to hand over assets to beneficiaries

This creates fear, uncertainty, and permanent loss for families.

I collaborated with another designer and worked across the entire design process, including:

UX research (desk research, competitive analysis, user interviews)

Problem definition and insight synthesis

Unformation architecture

Feature ideation and prioritization

High-fidelity UI design

Design decisions documentation

To deeply understand users’ behaviors and fears around investments and legacy, we conducted:

Desk research on digital assets, inheritance, and crypto adoption

Competitive analysis of platforms like Twinku, Binance, Blockchain, Risevest, Cowrywise, and GetCova

User interviews with 10 participants across different age ranges and investment types

Participants included designers, business owners, analysts, freelancers, and professionals based in Nigeria and the UK.

From interviews and surveys, several important patterns emerged:

Users invest across multiple platforms and struggle to see their total net worth in one place

Many users have never thought about what happens to their assets if they pass away

Some users had personally experienced family members losing shares or investments permanently

Most “next of kin” systems are unclear and unreliable

Users want beneficiaries to be informed but without exposing passwords or private keys

Trust and security matter more than profit or returns

As a user, I want to be able to see all my investment summary so I can estimate my worth

As a user, I want to be able to add important documentation like land details and certifications so these can be safeguarded

As a user, I want to be able to make notes on things I would love to keep that are of importance to me they can be on the blockchain for safeguarding

As a user, I want to be able to create and upload voice notes and videos so they can also be preserved and given out

As a user, i want to be able to add people to my beneficiaries so they can be part of the people that would benefit from my assets in case a demise

As a user, i want to be able to select a trustee from my beneficiaries as the person that would be contacted first incase any issue kinda like my next of kin or trusted confidant

Users don’t plan for death but they care deeply about their families

Trust is built through clarity, not complexity

Legacy planning should feel supportive, not morbid

Designing for sensitive topics requires empathy more than features

This project strengthened my ability to design emotionally complex products while balancing security, usability, and trust.
