Project Overview

The Contra Community redesign is a mobile-first extension of Contra that serves to unite freelancers and foster community, co-working, and freelance knowledge. My duty on this project as a UX/UI designer was to consider user pain points, ideate solutions, create information architecture, and to use the Contra design system to create a mobile-first application that expanded on Contra's brand identity.

The Problem

How might we allow Contra users to better connect? Additionally, how might we help freelancers alleviate sensations of isolation due to the nature of their work?

Ideation

To plan the early structure of the Contra Community app I moved directly into digital wireframes. Due to a limited time constraint (< 2 weeks) for the project to come to life, this project was largely focused on UI design and limited in our ability to research. However, due to a product team of 5 freelancers, our lived experiences as independents served as guiding points for the application's goals.

Wireframes and Early User Flow

Mock-Ups

At this point in the design process, I began to navigate through Contra's existing design system and to familiarize myself with conventions that I would keep consistent with our prospective mobile application. A few brand key points I identified were subtle gradients, rounded edges, a love for inter-fonts, and an overall vibrant interface.

High-fidelity Prototype

With the visual library established for the Contra Connect app, all that was left to do was to program a fully functioning prototype that would allow stakeholders to truly visualize what a user flow would look like. The prototype is publicly available here and follows the user through the process of investigating a local co-working space, who is there, and how to snag a desk.

Conclusion / Mock Testimonials

Our "Users" Adore the Contra Community App!
