Project Overview

This UX research project focused on comparing and analyzing three popular African fintech platforms: Geegpay, Grey, and Cleva. These apps offer cross-border payments, virtual cards, currency exchange, and freelance payment solutions.
The goal was to identify UX strengths, usability weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement, especially for freelancers and remote workers relying on these tools.

Objective

Understand core user journeys (sign-up, receiving payment, converting funds, sending money).
Benchmark user experience across three platforms.
Highlight usability gaps and friction points.
Offer actionable UX/UI recommendations for improvement.

Research Methodology

1. Heuristic Evaluation We assessed each app based on Jakob Nielsen’s 10 usability heuristics.
2. Competitor Benchmarking We created a feature-by-feature comparison matrix covering:
Account setup
Virtual card issuing
User dashboard
Currency conversion flow
Support and FAQs
3. User Testing (Informal) Tested flows with 5 remote freelancers using scenario tasks:
“Receive $200 from a client.”
“Convert $200 to Naira.”
“Withdraw to a Nigerian bank account.”
