Challenge

Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, one of Sri Lanka’s most prominent political writers with a career spanning over four decades, needed a personal website to serve as a comprehensive repository of his work. This included hundreds of online articles, published books, and notable interviews. Without an existing website or branding, the challenge was to create a website that reflected his stature, work, and invited readers to discover his political commentary.

Solution

Without pre defined brand colors or logos, this was a project that started from scratch. By choosing colors and fonts that match an editorial vibe I designed and developed an interactive website that's a bit out of the ordinary to create an interesting web experience rather than a static informative website, while in-cooperating all the essential pages to achieve his goals — a Homepage, About page, Interviews page, Articles page, Gallery, and Books page

Design Direction

The creative approach was guided by the nature of Dr. Jayatilleka’s work — serious, thought-provoking political content presented in a manner that remains inviting to a broad audience.
From the typography combinations of serif and sans serif fonts to the text reveal interactions and the dashed lines acting as a design element across the website with certain hover effects resembling the peeling back of paper, reflect the weight of the political discourse while maintaining an editorial feel.
