Japan Blockchain Association

Tony Hughes

I had the opportunity to design the logo and branding for the Japan Blockchain Association (JBA), a pivotal organization dedicated to advancing blockchain technology in Japan. Established in 2014, the JBA is the country's first incorporated association focused on blockchain education and promoting best practices. The association’s members include major corporations like Microsoft and Deloitte, as well as leading blockchain companies such as Kraken and bitFlyer.
The logo design captures the essence of blockchain while paying homage to Japanese culture. It’s based on a blockchain block, with the central red block symbolising the addition of a new block to the chain—a metaphor for growth and innovation. At the same time, the red block is reminiscent of the Japanese flag, reinforcing the organisation’s deep cultural roots.
This project allowed me to blend symbolism with functionality, creating a design that not only represents the association’s technological focus but also aligns with its cultural identity. The result is a clean, geometric logo that resonates with JBA’s values and their mission to drive blockchain adoption in the region.
Key Features:
Logo rooted in blockchain symbolism with a red block representing a new block being added to the blockchain.
Visual identity that reflects Japanese heritage through subtle cultural elements.
Design aligned with JBA’s mission of fostering a healthy blockchain ecosystem.
This branding project successfully blends technology and tradition, reinforcing JBA’s role as a leader in Japan’s blockchain landscape.
