This branding project for Soramitsu is centered around capturing the company’s core identity—a pioneering spirit rooted in Japanese culture with a global vision for technological innovation. The logo design integrates principles of Gestalt psychology with a clean, minimalistic approach, resulting in a visual identity that is both intuitive and refined.
Inspired by Soramitsu’s beginnings as a Tokyo-based company, the design reflects the Japanese aesthetic values of 結 (Ketsu)—a sense of unity and interconnectedness—and 侘寂 (Wabi-Sabi)—the beauty in simplicity and subtlety. Every element of the logo is carefully considered, embodying the concept of 引き算の美学 (Hikisanzan no Bigaku)—the beauty of subtraction—where only the most essential elements remain, creating a design that is both powerful and elegant.
The use of Gestalt principles enhances the logo’s visual clarity and cohesiveness, ensuring that the brand’s message is conveyed effortlessly. The interplay between negative space and form allows the viewer to engage with the logo in a way that is both meaningful and memorable. The end result is a versatile identity that resonates with Soramitsu’s blend of Japanese heritage and forward-looking innovation, perfectly aligning with the company’s mission to empower decentralized economies that benefit society.
