The Project Brief
Design a website that is a central hub for all things candle-making, such as courses, products, blogs for tips and tricks.
Paris Nothcutt is a candle maker, but she recently started to teach others how to create their own candle-making business and scale it to a six-figure business. She hired me to design her a branded website that will serve as a central hub. Her users can sign up for her courses, buy her products, and get tips on candle making in one place. With the right software to streamline and automate her processes, she will be able to focus on another aspect of her business
The problem
Paris wasn’t providing a good user experience when it came to user flow and user journey. Her process was all over the place; she used different tools and software to get the job done. She had everything separated with different branding, her landing page for her courses was other than her apparel shop and her candle-making shop. She was tired of using so many tools and was looking to streamline everything.
The Process
The Process
1- Once I understood the goal for the site and clearly defined the scope of work for the project. 2- I started to design the site's layout through low-fidelity wireframe old fashion pen to paper drawings. By doing low fidelity wireframe, I drew multiple concepts for the home page and what the other pages would look like dynamically. 3- After a few drawings, I scanned my concepts and uploaded them to Adobe XD where I can create high-fidelity concepts of mobile and web to show to the client.
High Fidelity Design
This project is a 15+ page site. I had to create dynamic pages with dynamic elements such as colors and fonts.
I designed dynamic templates. Create the framework for the content, then applied it across the whole website with just one click.
This allowed me to create a consistent look throughout the site. Which allowed visitors to be able to easily explore the site and find what they are looking for.
What I learned
I enjoyed working on this project. It showed me how to design multiple pages and keep everything consistent. I also learned to work diligently with the client to get all the content needed to go on the website.
However, it is essential to note that this project also challenged me a lot. I had to learn how to use new features and software for this project. This project required that I design a shopping page for the website. The tool I had to use for this was Woocomerce. I had to learn on the fly how to use this tool in WordPress to design the best shopping experience for my client's users.
The second challenge for me was designing an entire course inside WordPress. I also had no prior experience in doing this; I was able to go to Youtube university and learn how to do it. Due to how big the site was, we underestimated how much time it would take. We had to extend the time of completion, thus creating a new timeline for the project. This project was an overall success, the client was happy, and I got the chance to learn new features.
