The project involves building an iOS app to allow a user to perform high-resolution measurements of their arterial stiffness (Pulse Wave Velocity) on a standard iPhone using only the phone's camera and internal sensors.
Goals
Improve user posture and phone placement during measurements
Provide clear and engaging feedback on signal quality and measurement progress
Communicate the health significance of PWV results in an understandable way
Design principles for measurement
Inform
Set expectations. Give clear guidance for setup. Provide tips for common mistakes.
Guide
Create a sense of calmness. Use real-time feedback loop. Keep them engaged throughout the measurement.
Empower
Present measurement results in a way that provides clear and actionable feedback.
Multi-modal Feedback Loops
Visual, haptic and auditory cues provide real-time feedback on pulse detection, signal quality, and measurement progress. These cues guide users through the process and ensure a successful reading every time.
Actionable Results
Understanding health data can be complex. We designed the results screen to provide clear, actionable insights into a user's arterial health. By categorizing PWV results and offering personalized advice, we empower users to take control of their cardiovascular well-being.
