Universal Messaging: A static value proposition that, while strong, lacked relevance for diverse visitors.
Static User Journeys: Identical pathways for all visitors, disregarding their unique challenges, needs, and goals.
This generic approach led to high traffic but low conversion rates.
Hypothesis:
By segmenting traffic and delivering personalized experiences tailored to visitor profiles, conversion rates could be significantly increased.
Solution:
A three-layered personalization strategy was implemented:
Firmographic Personalization:
Data Integration: Connected a B2B data platform to de-anonymize visitors using reverse IP lookup, segmenting them by company size, industry, revenue, and other firmographic data.
Customized Messaging: Developed tailored messages for each segment. For instance, startups received messaging addressing budget constraints, while SMBs saw content focusing on recruitment and hiring speed challenges.
CRM-Based Personalization:
CRM Connection: Integrated the website personalization platform with the company's CRM to identify returning visitors and existing leads.
Personalized Experiences: Displayed customized content based on the visitor's stage in the sales funnel, previous interactions, and known preferences.
Behavioral Personalization:
Behavior Tracking: Monitored visitor interactions, such as pages viewed, content read, and forms completed.
Dynamic Content Delivery: Adapted website content in real-time to reflect visitor behavior, ensuring relevance and engagement.
Implementation:
Utilizing a website personalization platform, the team rapidly created and deployed hundreds of personalized segments without requiring engineering support. Each personalization was treated as an experiment, with performance monitored to assess impact.
Results:
The cumulative effect of these personalization efforts was substantial:
