What This Project Was Really About:
More than a facelift. This was about elevating an African beauty powerhouse into a scalable, world-class digital operation both for the woman on her phone trying to find her perfect shade, and the team behind the scenes making it all happen.
The Brand Context
About Zaron Cosmetics:
Zaron is a bold, African-rooted beauty brand. It exists to serve melanin-rich skin with quality, inclusivity, and power. But even brands that embody beauty need a digital system that matches their ambition.
The Problem:
The existing ecosystem was fragmented, outdated, and failing both customers and the internal team. It needed more than a refresh, it needed an intentional reinvention.
Project Objectives
For Customers:
Craft a seamless, intuitive shopping experience
Make shade discovery joyful, not frustrating
Modernize the look without losing authenticity
For the Back Office:
Give the internal team power, not friction
Make insights and operations visible and manageable
Build a platform that scales as fast as the brand does
Research That Informed the Blueprint
I didn’t design in a vacuum.
Insights from Customers:
“I don’t know if this shade will match me.”
“The site is too slow on mobile.”
“I want to shop faster.”
Insights from the Zaron Team:
“I can’t find the orders I need to update.”
“Inventory tracking is chaotic.”
“Reporting is manual , everything takes too long.”
I merged empathy and insight into a design system that works.
Design Strategy That Anchored Everything
Visual Language:
Public Platform: Melanin-first imagery, bold typography, rich reds and golds
Admin System: Crisp lines, clean grids, high legibility utility without the ugly
+Significant internal efficiency and team satisfaction
But beyond metrics we brought dignity to the work behind beauty. We gave both customers and staff the power of clarity.
The Bigger Picture
What This Project Taught Me:
Great digital platforms don’t just sell. They serve. The front and back office are two sides of the same coin and both deserve intentionality.
What’s Next:
Smarter data integrations for Zaron’s leadership
Community content on PDPs to build trust
Hyper-localized flows as the brand goes global
Final Thoughts
This wasn’t just a design task, it was a product transformation. From discovery to deployment, I rebuilt how Zaron connects with the women it serves and the team behind the scenes.
If you're a founder, recruiter, or fellow creative know this:
I don’t just design to make things look good. I design to make things work better bafor the people using it and the business running it.
