The Challenge

B2B SaaS companies face a critical paradox: their products are becoming increasingly powerful, yet user adoption and retention continue to decline. The industry loses $4.6 billion annually in productivity gaps between software capability and user adoption.

Core Problems Identified:

High churn from complex onboarding — steep learning curves cause early disengagement
Slow product adoption — users can't quickly understand or utilize new features
Underutilized capabilities — customers fail to discover the full value of their tools
Technical barriers — non-technical users struggle with workflow automation
Escalating support costs — companies invest heavily in training resources, averaging $82,341 per year in support worker costs
The average B2B SaaS company with $10M ARR loses $385,000 annually due to these friction points.

The Vision

To create a world where software adapts to humans, not humans to software — making every user a power user through AI-driven assistance.

My Role & Approach

As Lead Designer, I led the entire design process from concept to launch, working closely with engineering and product teams to create a completely novel interaction paradigm. This wasn't about improving existing patterns — it was about inventing a new way for humans to interact with software.

The Solution: An Intelligent AI Cursor Companion

Rather than adding another layer of UI complexity, Mues AI transforms the user's existing cursor into an intelligent agent. Users type what they need in natural language, and the AI cursor takes over — navigating interfaces, filling forms, creating workflows, and executing complex multi-step tasks.

Core Design Principles:

1. Invisible Integration The AI operates directly within any web application without requiring custom integrations or disrupting existing UI patterns. Users don't need to switch contexts or learn new interfaces.
2. Natural Language First No special commands or syntax — users describe tasks in everyday language. The AI interprets intent and executes accordingly.
3. Process Learning by Observation The cursor watches user actions to understand workflows, enabling it to replicate and optimize processes without manual configuration.
4. Transparent AI Actions Real-time visual feedback shows exactly what the AI is doing, building trust through visibility and control.
5. Seamless UI Adaptation The AI learns from user actions instantly, adapting to interface changes even before documentation is updated.

Design Challenges & Solutions

Challenge 1: Establishing Trust in AI Actions

Solution: Designed a comprehensive feedback system showing AI progress, decision-making, and allowing users to pause or reverse actions at any time. Visual cues indicate what the AI is "thinking" and "doing."

Challenge 2: Balancing Autonomy and Control

Solution: Created a layered interaction model where users can choose their level of involvement — from fully automated to step-by-step guided experiences.

Challenge 3: Working Across Diverse Interfaces

Solution: Developed adaptive design patterns that work universally across web applications, from CRMs to project management tools to analytics platforms.

Challenge 4: Novel Interaction Paradigm

Solution: Through extensive testing and iteration, identified the interaction patterns that felt most intuitive to users, even though they had never experienced anything like it before.

Impact & Results

User Feedback

Users were thrilled with the new design flow and improved cursor efficiency. Key feedback themes:
"It's like having a knowledgeable colleague showing you how to use the app"
"Mues precisely targets our support pain points by guiding users through product features"
"For our small business users with limited tech skills, this guided experience would be transformative"
