AMS × CERO Grips: Ride Feel Through Purposeful Ergonomic Design

Back in 2020, during my internship at CERO Design, I had the opportunity to work on my first real industrial design project: the AMS × Cero Grips. This collaboration between All Mountain Style and CERO Design set out to create something that wasn’t just another pair of bike grips, but a product that combined function, form and attitude in a distinctive way.

The Strategic Challenge

The goal was to redefine the standard for mountain bike grips both visually and functionally. Most grips in the market focused on either aggressive styling or comfort, rarely both. AMS wanted a design that could stand out through precision, geometry, and material logic, all while staying true to the brand’s minimalist yet bold identity.
The challenge was to design a grip that offered:
Clear ergonomic advantages for control and comfort
Visual distinction through geometry and material transitions
A structure that could withstand the harsh conditions of downhill and enduro riding

Creative Execution

I collaborated closely with the CERO Design team throughout the entire development process, from concept exploration to CAD refinement.
What we delivered:
3D Modeling: Built detailed surfaces and solid models, integrating dual-material logic and structural grip zones.
Ergonomic Study: Supported the development of an asymmetrical grip profile for improved hand positioning and reduced fatigue.
Design Detailing: Modeled the diamond and grid textures, ensuring both tactile performance and a clean visual flow.
Prototyping Support: Prepared CAD data optimized for mold production and aesthetic verification.
The result was a grip that feels engineered, not decorated combining tactile precision with a confident aesthetic.

Approach

This project was about intentional design every surface, texture, and transition had purpose. The asymmetrical ergonomics give better leverage and feedback. The dual-compound rubber ensures comfort and control in every condition. And the clean geometry makes the product feel both professional and expressive, a statement of modern mountain bike culture.

Results & Impact

The AMS × Cero Grips went into full production and are now available worldwide in multiple colorways including a Red Bull Rampage Edition used by elite riders. The project marked a key milestone for me as a designer, showing how thoughtful design can live beyond the screen and into the hands of real users.
