Clio | A study in modern masculinity & behavioral design

Clio was born from a desire to strip away the noise and debunk the myth that comfortable, stylish menswear has to be overly casual and sporty. In a consumerist, trendy landscape saturated with fast-fashion ephemera and name-brand-heavy streetwear, the objective was to architect a brand ecosystem rooted in material stewardship and quiet permanence that is affordable yet delivers a high-quality experience for the consumer.
As Creative Director, I intended to explore the convergence of ancestral artisanal heritage, eco-responsible materials, and a timeless, fashion-conscious soul. Clio does not design garments for a single season; it curates sustainable, beautiful clothing perfect for the contemporary man’s lifestyle. The aesthetic promises to be as enduring as a classical structure, yet as weightless as a Mediterranean breeze. It’s fashionable, it’s comfortable, and it’s life-changing for the consumer (and the environment!).
The vision: The soft domination of a modern gentleman
Clio was conceptualized for the dream archetype: A man who is profoundly smart, meticulous, and unapologetically soft, yet possesses an undeniable, dominant presence. He is the modern gentleman personified — reminiscent of the gentle yet magnetic leads found in contemporary K-dramas, carrying the effortless, sun-kissed warmth of a Jason Mraz melody, balanced with the crisp, tailored manners of a 1930s sartorialist.
This brand is a sanctuary for a manicured, truly beautiful masculine expression. It exists as a direct cultural counterweight to a market that over-praises the rugged, hyper-casual macho aesthetic and historically penalizes the "delicate man." Here, refinement is not a lack of strength, but the ultimate manifestation of it.
The strategy: cognitive reframing & structural serenity
While Clio would thrive naturally in European countries, our challenge is the American man. We want to have a strong presence in North, Central, and South America, while distancing the brand from the traditional, rugged tropes of American masculinity, which historically lean into utility or ostentatious status symbols. The brand strategy relies on neuromarketing principles and subtle sensory priming to reform the perception of these markets and become a reference in the industry.
The visual identity is designed around a very specific, muted shade of dawn azure. In consumer psychology, this specific wavelength suppresses neurological friction, inducing feelings of safety, deep trust, and intellectual clarity. By pairing this fluid, gentle hue with a casual, minimalist typography, the visual identity achieves a precise psychological balance: it feels entirely vulnerable in its honesty, yet unshakable in its structural integrity and practicality.
This identity speaks directly to a highly specific archetype: the man who has transcended the need for visual volume. Inspired by the poetic minimalism of high-end Asian design and the heritage of European fashion, Clio caters to those who understand that the ultimate expression of power is a quiet, intentional presence.
The neuromarketing of touch
In an increasingly digital world, the physical touchpoints of a brand carry the heaviest emotional and subconscious weight. For Clio, I treated every piece of collateral — from the woven label to the packaging system — as a somatic anchor of trust.
Micro-textural engineering: The clothing labels were specified with an ultra-high-definition microfiber weave, eliminating tactile friction against the skin. This subtle detail ensures that the wearer’s first physical interaction with the brand is a subconscious realization: “there is no discomfort here. Are the stylish men always feeling like this?”
The raw and the refined: The zero-waste packaging system utilizes a heavy, raw-textured substrate derived from upcycled organic matter, paired with unbleached raw jute cords. The stark tactile contrast — the primal, toothy grain of the manually embossed paper against the soft fluidity of the premium textiles — creates an instant sensory event that the brain automatically decodes as noble, authentic, and elevated.
Art direction thoughts: The visual narrative relies entirely on dual-spectrum natural lighting to guide the viewer's emotional state. I directed a split-tonality approach: crisp, ethereal morning light for product cataloging to evoke clarity, contrasted with a dense, honey-toned "golden hour" light for editorial layouts to inspire nostalgia and legacy.
From the creative's notebook
Because the nature of my roles for regular clients demands strict confidentiality, I occasionally construct complete, conceptual brand universes from the ground up. These studies serve as an unconstrained canvas for me to merge behavioral science, culture, and aesthetics — which are some of my passions — demonstrating my strategic framework without compromising the absolute discretion I owe to my private clientele.
Clio remains one of my most fulfilling creative explorations. It allowed me to deconstruct traditional masculinity and rebuild it through a lens of emotional depth and timeless grace. It is a brand liberated from the trend cycle: familiar, profoundly human, made to be remembered from the buying experience to the most subconscious tactile memory, and consciously built to last. This approach also promotes the consolidation of a strong, loyal client base, because it completely reframes the common experience of men with clothing.
