SurfSwappers is a subscription-based home exchange platform for the global surf community. Members can exchange homes or surf-adjacent stays with other surfers through reciprocal swaps or a points-based system.
The platform also includes a skill-swap section, where members can exchange surf-related skills and services. The initial goal was to launch an MVP that could scale as the community grows.
The Challenge
The client wanted a minimal, community-led website that felt built specifically for surfers.
A key challenge was avoiding the visual language of a typical real estate platform. The experience needed to feel warm, simple, and connected to surf culture, while still making home exchanges, points, and skill swaps easy to understand.
My Approach
I started by reviewing the client’s visual inspirations and collecting the available project information.
From there, I researched design directions that could reflect the surf community without making the platform feel overly complex or like a property-listing website. I created the first visual direction, V1, to align on the overall look and feel.
After collecting feedback, I refined the direction into V2. Once V2 was approved, I designed the remaining inner pages to create a consistent experience across the MVP.
Outcome
The client approved the V2 direction and felt it aligned clearly with the intended vision for SurfSwappers. The final design gave the project a focused visual direction that felt minimal, surf-community oriented, and distinct from a conventional real estate website.
