Animation Stylized Opening for a TV Series

Petar Avramovic

The Problem:

The client was inspired by animated logos that appear as if they’re hand-drawn. He wanted his text-based logo to be animated with a custom, hand-crafted look, avoiding the use of standard fonts. The brief included:
Designing and sketching each letter manually
Ensuring that each letter had its own animation, without interfering with others
Animating all letters simultaneously, to make the entire logo feel rich and complex
The final animation was intended to serve as an intro for a new animated series inspired by the visual identity of The Simpsons.

The Solution:

I found inspiration in a logo from a tuna fishing company, which featured a curved, vibrating form that looked like it was made of water. That became the basis for a fluid animation approach, emphasizing classic animation principles:
Anticipation
Overlapping & Follow Through
Squash and Stretch
Each letter was drawn using multiple paths:
One path served as a mask to reveal the letter
Others were used to draw the character, with different stroke weights to create depth and richness
Each letter was animated individually, then assembled into one composition in After Effects. To add dynamic flair, I introduced small animated rings that appear at sharp turns during the stroke animation — simulating splashes or droplets caused by rotational force.

The Background:

The background was built using vector clouds (from Freepik)
Converted into 3D layers through which the camera travels in After Effects
Final frame lands on a park scene, created using an AI tool
The entire scene, animation style, and tone were carefully designed to reflect the world of The Simpsons.

The Result:

When I posted the animation as a showcase of my latest work, it quickly went viral — resonating with both the client and the audience. This boosted visibility for the project and brought in new inquiries for similar high-quality animated intros. 192 5 Comments

Created a hook for the pilot to attract the audience. Animated the logo in After Effects with a spline approach, ensuring each letter appears without disruption
