2022 marked my return to the Middle East for the first time since the pandemic. This is one of the most rapidly evolving regions in the world, and after two-and-a-half years away, it was evident that I'd be discovering many sights and sounds I thought to be familiar anew.

Downtown Beirut was empty in October 2022. It looked like a non-descript Hollywood film lot, waiting to be reanimated with the hustle of bustle of pre-pandemic Beirut.

These districts are mostly Maronite Catholic, evidenced by the many monasteries tucked away on the sheer cliffs. The inaccessibility catalyzes asceticism.

The only way to this monastery is to climb up the sheer cliffs. It makes getting to the Dental clinic next store a real trek.
