Film Photography Portfolio: Crete

Anywhere on Crete seems a world away from the rest of Greece. Upon landing in Chania, you can't help but notice the demonym shift, from "this is Greek honey" to "this is Cretan honey," and the special pride and emphasis that comes with. This isn't just for the tourists: if you read the Greek alphabet, the shift in language for the locals comes with, too.
Olives are harvested in a clever manner: a large vibrating stick knocks the olives gently down into the tarps below, which are then folded up and taken to be pressed. What started as a simple photograph ended up being an afternoon of volunteering to harvest and press olives. I do not speak Greek, nor they English, and still we were able to harvest beautiful Cretan olives together.
