There are many reasons why someone may never considered hiring freelancers. But once you see the benefits there is really NO reason not to.
So say you are all in and you are ready to make your first freelance hire. The next question I get is "how do I find the best person for the job?"
Here are my top 5 tips on finding your best freelance hire.
Skill-wise
Book + trust the expert! Make sure they have the necessary technical skills to complete the job to your satisfaction. This is a non-negotiable. Do not go with someone who would be "learning on the job". Trust me, someone who is an expert in their field will be able to work more efficiently and effectively, as they will have the skills and experience to complete the task to a high standard in a shorter amount of time. Once you feel confident they are the expert, trust them to do their job.
It's more than just the skills. My next 4 tips are all about who they are as a person and how they operate. After-all you have to like and trust who you are working with!
Professionalism: How do they present themselves? Look for freelancers who are professional in their approach to work. They should be reliable, responsive, and have good time management skills.
Self-motivated: They should be self-motivated and able to work independently. This means they should have the drive to complete tasks without constant supervision.
Works well with others: They should be able to be collaborative and receptive to feedback. After all they are working on your project. If they don't take feedback well or aren't interested in what you have to say, this is a sign they might be hard to work with. However, as I mentioned above: you still want to trust they are the expert and they may know things you don't know. 😉
Positive attitude: Finally, look for freelancers who have a positive attitude towards work. It will make them much more enjoyable to work with.
