Flag Rant

Flag Rant is a curatorial project I have been running since 2019. Invited artists are given carte blanche to produce a flag in the "standard" format of 1500 × 1000 mm. So far, 90 flags have been produced across three editions.

By inviting artists to take hold of the flag, the power contained in this object is subverted: these are no longer markers of power or identity symbols, but a medium invested by individuals from varied horizons. The exhaustion of the medium simultaneously operates a desacralization of the flag, allowing icons to be brought back to their status as images.
