Girl In Red

Girl In Red
"Thank you so much!" The little girl's parents said leaving the house. Holly's parents went out for a business dinner, so they hired a baby-sitter to watch their daughter.
"Can I have some ice-cream?" Holly asked after supper.
"Sure." the baby-sitter, Madison replied.
"Where's the freezer?"
"In the basement, along with the nuts, cherries, candy and other stuff." So down she went to grab the ice cream. When she did, she looked out the window to see a little girl with a red skirt and black top standing outside. This didn't strike Madison as too suspicious, and she simply brushed it off.
"Can I have some hot fudge on this please?" Holly asked after handing the treat to her.
"Course" was her quick reply as she went back down into the basement. She looked back out the window to see the same little girl only this time with a distinct bright red colored cape tied around her. She absentmindedly wondered if the girl was playing dress-up as she trudged back up the stairs.
"Got it!" Madison said as she set the fudge in the microwave and poured the thick chocolate goop onto the ice cream.
"May I have some nuts on this as well? Please...?" Holly asked.
"Really." Madison said
"Puh-lease" Holly pleaded with her puppy eyes
"Fine..." She sighed after rolling her eyes and heading down the stairs once again. As she got the nuts out of a small cabinet, she looked back out the window to see the same little girl with the cape except this time she had a sharp silver knife. As she ran upstairs, she decided to call the police.
"Ooh thank you." Holly squealed happily from her pink Disney princess booster seat.
"Uh-I-yeah. Hey Holly, I need you to-"
"Oh no! I forgot the cherry on top." Holly said. Not wanting to alarm Holly, Madison played it cool, deciding she would get the cherry, then lock herself with Holly in the bathroom, call the police and stay safe. After slowly descending down the stairs, she opened the freezer with shaky arms. Daring to peel out the window she saw the girl once again. She wore the bright red cape and held the knife...only this time the knife was covered in fresh blood. Running upstairs, scared of what she might await, she checked on Holly. There she was. Swimming in a pool of blood beneath her. Madison ran into the bathroom and dialed 911. The police, along with a tearful mother and shocked father arrived. The mother sobbing uncontrollably approached Madison.
"What happened?!"
"Oh my gosh - I'm so sorry, I saw this little girl with t-this red cape and a knife outside your basement window and-" Holly's mother cut her off.
"We don't have basement windows...only mirrors."

Yeeeeeees?
When I was a child my family moved to a big old two-floor house, with big empty rooms and creaking floorboards. Both my parents worked so I was often alone when I came home from school. One early evening when I came home the house was still dark.
I called out, “Mum?” and heard her sing song voice say “Yeeeeees?” from upstairs. I called her again as I climbed the stairs to see which room she was in, and again got the same “Yeeeeees?” reply. We were decorating at the time, and I didn’t know my way around the maze of rooms but she was in one of the far ones, right down the hall. I felt uneasy, but I figured that was only natural so I rushed forward to see my mum, knowing that her presence would calm my fears, as a mother’s presence always does.
Just as I reached for the handle of the door to let myself in to the room I heard the front door downstairs open and my mother call “Sweetie, are you home?” in a cheery voice. I jumped back, startled and ran down the stairs to her, but as I glanced back from the top of the stairs, the door to the room slowly opened a crack. For a brief moment, I saw something strange in there, and I don’t know what it was, but it was staring at me.

Sometimes pretending to be asleep doesn't work..
A young boy is sleeping in his bed on a usual night. He hears footsteps outside his door, and peeks out of his eyes to see what is happening. His door swings open quietly to reveal a murderer carrying the corpses of his parents. After silently propping them up on a chair, he writes something on the wall in the blood of the dead bodies. He then hides under the child’s bed. The child is scared beyond belief. He can’t read the writing on the wall and he knows the man is under his bed. Like any child, he pretends that he slept through the whole thing and hasn’t awoken yet. He lays still as the bodies, quietly hearing the breathes from under his bed.
An hour passes, and his eyes are adjusting more and more to the darkness. He tries to make out the words, but it’s a struggle. He gasps when he finally makes out the sentence.
“I know you’re awake”. He feels something shift underneath his bed.

What's in the basement???
Mommy told me never to go in the basement, but I wanted to see what was making that noise. It kind of sounded like a puppy, and I wanted to see the puppy, so I opened the basement door and tiptoed down a bit. I didn’t see a puppy, and then Mommy yanked me out of the basement and yelled at me. Mommy had never yelled at me before, and it made me sad and I cried. Then Mommy told me never to go into the basement again, and she gave me a cookie. That made me feels better, so I didn’t ask her why the boy in the basement was making noises like a puppy, or why he had no hands or feet.

The new old house!!!
We bought an old house, my boyfriend and I. He's in charge of the "new" construction – converting the kitchen in to the master bedroom for instance, while I'm on wallpaper removal duty. The previous owner papered EVERY wall and CEILING! Removing it is brutal, but oddly satisfying. The best feeling is getting a long peel, similar to your skin when you're peeling from sunburn. I don't know about you but I kinda make a game of peeling, on the hunt for the longest piece before it rips. Under a corner section of paper in every room is a person’s name and a date. Curiosity got the best of me one night when I Googled one of the names and discovered the person was actually a missing person, the missing date matching the date under the wallpaper! The next day, I made a list of all the names and dates. Sure enough each name was for a missing person with dates to match. We notified the police who naturally sent out the crime scene team. I overhead one tech say "yup, it's human." Human? What's human?"Ma'am, where is the material you removed from the walls already? This isn't wallpaper you were removing."
