Website Redesign and Brand Implementation for Sports Charity
Wholegrain Digital originally created Greenhouse Sports' website in 2016. By 2023, the charity needed a website refresh to align with their new branding and create a more streamlined user experience. The website had to showcase the charity’s impact on young people in a clear and accessible way, while also prioritising fundraising and donations.
My Responsibilities
I was responsible for creating a new sitemap and wireframes that included a clear donation user flow. Another focus was ensuring the website communicated the charity’s impact on young people effectively. Additionally, I was tasked with incorporating the charity’s recently introduced brand visuals into the website's design, celebrating the refreshed identity.
The Design Process
Stakeholder Meeting
The project began with a stakeholder meeting where the team at Wholegrain and I met with the clients to discuss the website's goals and requirements.
Information Architecture and Key Journeys
From this meeting, I developed a draft information architecture (IA). I suggested renaming the “case studies” section to “stories” to better highlight the personal journeys of young people. I also moved “stories” to the main navigation to make Greenhouse Sports’ impact more visible. Simplifying the donation process was another priority, so I added a clear “donate” button to the top navigation, ensuring it was accessible on every page. I also included a story on the donation page to illustrate the impact of donating. After presenting the IA to stakeholders, I refined the structure based on their feedback.
Wireframes and UI Design
With the IA approved, I created wireframes to map out the website’s structure. After finalising the wireframes, I worked on the visual design, using the charity’s new brand guidelines. To reflect the refreshed identity, I suggested a dark theme to give the site a modern, sleek look while aligning with their updated branding.
Outcome
The updated Greenhouse Sports website now reflects the charity’s impact through clearer storytelling and a more prominent donation flow. The integration of the new branding and the improved user experience support both the charity’s fundraising goals and their mission to showcase the positive effect they have on young people.
