LUMXN Magazine wanted someone to design their magazine front to back, and to develop a design that was art-forward, while highlighting the women and non-binary folks who were featured in the magazine.

LUMXN is a magazine that was created by two friends of mine. I stepped in when they were having difficulties realizing their vision. Through months of working together, I created a visual style that would carry throughout each print, with availability to create unique experiences with each print depending on the theme.

Our mission is simple: to spread the light that shines when womxn and non-binary people of color are unapologetically themselves. Womxn and non-binary people of color experience life in a unique way. Coming into being, maintaining our being — simply being — requires a special kind of light. LUMXN (/lōomen/) is a publication where that light is allowed to shine. We create space for those figuring it out, whether they’re on step one of the journey or step 23. We invite poets, scholars, writers, and everyday people across generations to share stories from their journeys to understanding and embracing their light. We do this because we know that our individual journeys to healing are ongoing, eternal and powerful. We believe that by validating all of our specific experiences collectively, we can heal and inspire each other to be unapologetically ourselves — to shine together.
