Samba Hotel & Hostel

Samba is a hotel & hostel located in Ahangama, a popular tourist destination on the South Coast of Sri Lanka. When meeting the clients ahead of the project starting, we asked them to find out some history of the location and were informed by the locals that it used to be a rice mill. Using this as inspiration, the name ‘Samba’ comes from a grain of rice endemic to Sri Lanka and South India and is easy to pronounce in most languages making it ideal for international tourists. The ‘S’ is derived from a Sinhala S, with an added accent to honour the Sri Lankan roots of the land in an area that is rapidly developing to cater to tourism.
