Our challenges
Marinade stands out in the world of DeFi. While most apps overwhelm users with complex dashboards, charts, and endless numbers, Marinade takes a refreshingly different approach with its simplicity. Originally designed as a mobile-first app, I aimed to enhance this streamlined experience even further.
My goal was to make the app accessible to newcomers while still catering to the many advanced users among Marinade's user base. Striking this balance was crucial.
After the 1st iteration of the design, Marinade team did a strategical pivot towards institutional adoption. That required as to re-think the app UX and make the app more scalable for upcoming functionality.
I simplified the design, made it not that playful and more acceptable for institutional audience. The next step of this shift was switching to shadcn/ui to increase the speed of development. It allowed us to streamline the iterating process and iterate much faster. One more bonus here is that vibecode tools such as Cursor work much better with shadcn/ui.
What was achieved
Consistency
When I first joined the Marinade team, we were in the midst of a design revolution. Back then, parts of the app felt like they were speaking different languages. After 2 re-designs, it's consistent, scalable, and very fast to iterate, thanks to shadcn/ui integration.
New Features
We did a great job setting the right accents across the app, streamlining the user experience, and improving our KPIs. It allowed us to increase the % of SOL staked with Native strategy (Marinade's primary product) by 20-30%.
Design Cookbook
Now Marinade has a complete design-code system that is easy to build and maintain. It's now much simpler to prototype, test, iterate, and get much better measurements while keeping devs out of the fire.
