YEAR: 2022-2024
TEAM: Collaboration with Luxoft team members and stakeholders from Mercedes-Benz

Challenge

The challenge was to enhance the user experience of Mercedes-Benz vehicles through the MBUX Multimediasystem. Despite advancements in automotive technology, infotainment systems often struggled with complexity, leading to user frustration and distraction while driving. The goal was to create an intuitive and adaptive system that seamlessly integrated into users' driving routines while offering personalized features and entertainment options.

Role

As a UX Designer, my responsibilities included documenting, specifying, and maintaining wireframes for different domains within the MBUX system. Additionally, I took on the role of UX Text Designer, ensuring clarity and consistency in the system's textual elements. After six months, I assumed responsibility for updating the Design System and Libraries.

Solution

Over the course of the project, we collaborated closely with stakeholders and developers to deliver a user-centric infotainment system. Using Sketch as a tool, we crafted wireframes that prioritized simplicity and ease of use. The system was designed to adapt to users' preferences and behaviors, offering intuitive controls through voice commands, touch interactions, or gestures. We emphasized personalization, allowing users to customize displays, modes, and color schemes to suit their preferences.

Achievements

🚗 Seamless Integration: MBUX seamlessly integrates into users' driving experiences, enhancing convenience and safety.
🎨 Personalized Experience: Users can personalize displays and features to align with their preferences and habits.
🎶 Enhanced Entertainment: MBUX Entertainment Plus offers users access to a variety of third-party apps directly within the Mercedes-Benz environment.

Process

1. Research & Analysis

We conducted market research to understand user needs and preferences, complemented by competitor analysis and user interviews.

2. Wireframing & Design

Using Sketch, we created wireframes that prioritized simplicity and intuitiveness, ensuring a seamless user experience.

3. Collaboration & Iteration

Weekly grooming and sprint meetings facilitated collaboration among team members, ensuring alignment with project goals and stakeholder expectations.

4. Testing & Validation

Usability testing and feedback sessions allowed us to refine the system iteratively, ensuring that it met users' needs and expectations.

5. Handoff & Implementation

Wireframes were documented in an Excel-based database system and shared with developers for implementation, with regular reviews to ensure alignment with project objectives.

Conclusion

Working on the MBUX Multimediasystem project was both challenging and rewarding. By prioritizing simplicity, personalization, and adaptability, we created an infotainment system that enhances the driving experience for Mercedes-Benz users. Our collaborative approach and dedication to user-centric design were reflected in the positive feedback received from stakeholders.
