Case Study: Custom Banners for PlaySense Website

When PlaySense approached me for custom banner designs, they wanted a cohesive look that captured their brand identity without relying on specific game assets or characters. I started by diving into PlaySense’s brand identity and overall goals. It was clear that a polished, professional design style—like the Level 3 style referenced in their Figma document—would best showcase their website’s vision. From there, I worked closely with their team to ensure every banner fit seamlessly into the site’s overall aesthetic.

Here’s how I broke down the project:

1. “About Us” Master Banner

I began by designing a completely custom banner for the “About Us” section. This was the cornerstone of the project—a banner that visually expressed PlaySense’s mission and identity. I spent time sketching out ideas and iterating on layouts to ensure it was eye-catching, clean, and impactful.

2. Category-Specific Banners

Next, I tackled banners for the main categories: “Reviews,” “Previews,” “Specials,” “Hardware,” and “News.” I designed a master banner first, setting the tone for the rest. For the variations, I kept the layout and typography consistent but customized the background and foreground elements to reflect the unique focus of each category.

3. Platform-Specific Banners Finally, I created nine banners for different platforms, including Mobile, Nintendo, PC, PS5, PS4, PS3, PSVita, VR, and Xbox. Again, I started with a master banner and then adapted it for each platform, ensuring the designs were tailored yet consistent. The key was balancing individuality for each platform with a cohesive look across the set.

Throughout the project, I followed a collaborative and iterative approach. I shared drafts with the client at every stage, incorporating their feedback to refine the designs. By focusing on small details—like consistent typography, thoughtful color palettes, and balanced layouts—I ensured the final banners were polished and professional.
