Struggling to get sales on Etsy? You’re not alone! With thousands of sellers competing for attention, it can feel impossible to stand out.
I know what it is: you spend days creating your products and setting up your listings in your shop. You’re super excited to get your first sale. You wait. And then… crickets.
The truth is, no matter how great your products are, you won’t make any sales if no one can find them. You can’t rely on guesswork to optimize your listings; you have to use strategy. Without the right keywords, competitor research, and a data-driven approach, your shop may remain hidden beneath your competition.
That’s where eRank comes in. This powerful SEO tool will help you find the best keywords and optimize your listings the right way. In this guide, you’ll learn how to use eRank to boost your visibility on Etsy, attract more buyers, and increase your sales. Let’s dive in!
Market & keyword research
This step might be the MOST important if you want to succeed on Etsy. You probably already have ideas about what you would like to sell in your Etsy shop…but is there demand for it ?
Imagine spending months creating your products, setting up your shop, and sharing on social media. Then, you discover that no one wants what you offer.
To avoid that, I recommend conducting market research first. This will help you validate your business idea before doing anything else. You can do that by doing keyword research with eRank.
How do you use eRank for keyword research?
First, you'll enter a keyword in the search bar. For example, let’s say that you’re thinking about selling Showit website templates:

Then, analyze the results. Look at the average searches and Etsy competition. Try to find a keyword with lots of searches but low competition.
This example shows that the keyword "showit website template" meets both criteria. This suggests that selling Showit website templates on Etsy might be a strong business idea. The keyword "wix website template" also has a good search volume without too much competition. Based on these results, it seems like selling website templates is a good idea.
Study your competition
When you sell on Etsy, the downside is that you’re in direct competition with other sellers. Even in a less competitive niche, you might still compete with many shops. There could be hundreds selling similar items.
How are you going to differentiate yourself from the others?
If you want to stand out among the competition, you need to study what the other shops in your niche are doing. Let's get into how you can do that.
Study your competition on Etsy
The first method to do this is to research your competitors directly on Etsy. To do that, enter keywords related to your products in the search bar on Etsy.
Now, take a look at some of these listings and the shops that are selling them. Here are some things that you should consider when you’re doing your research:
-What are they selling? Do they sell products that you don’t currently have in your shop? It can give you some ideas and inspire you to create and add new products to your shop.
-Look at their branding. What are they doing differently? For example, look at this shop’s branding:
They did a few things really well here.
When you visit their shop, the banner clearly shows what they offer: website and marketing templates for ambitious women. They also include a discount code at the top of their banner.
Now, look at your own shop and branding: could you improve your logo and your banner? When people land on your page, can they quickly understand what you're selling?
-What are their pricing strategies? Do they offer discounts? Do they run sales?
-Look at their reviews. What are their customers saying? What do they like or dislike about their products? You can use this information to improve your own products. If they have negative reviews, learn from them to avoid the same mistakes.
Study your competition on Erank
You can also use eRank to research your competition on Etsy.
For keyword research, click on ‘top listings.’ eRank will show you the top 100 listings for that keyword. This way, you can find shops with listings that attract many customers. Then, examine them to understand their successful strategies.

Optimized Listings and SEO
Even if you have the best products in the world, you won’t make any sales if your listings don’t show up on Etsy. If you want people to find your shop, you need to include relevant keywords in your titles, product descriptions and tags. But, how can you find good keywords?
Titles and tags
Let’s start with titles and tags. The first thing that you can do is go on Etsy. Type a keyword in the search bar and see what keyword suggestions appear.
The reason it works is that Etsy's search bar autocomplete uses keywords that actual shoppers are typing. For example, let’s say that I’m selling digital planners for people with ADHD. I'll type ‘digital planner’ or 'adhd planner' in the search bar.
Now, I can use the results to make a list of keywords, and from this list, I can create my title. For example, my title could be something like this:
Adhd digital planner - Adhd daily planner - Goodnotes Digital Planner - Ipad Digital Planner - 2025 Digital Planner
A second strategy to find good keywords for product titles and tags is to use the eRank Bulk Keyword Tool.
This tool allows you to have the estimated search volumes for both Etsy and Google for up to 20 keywords at a time. Each time you find a keyword with a high monthly search volume and low competition, click on the star next to it. This saves it in a keyword list (so you can come back to it later)!

Don’t forget to match your tags with your title keywords. On Etsy, you can use up to 13 keywords; I recommend using all them.
Also, an effective strategy is to target long-tail keywords. Use specific keywords instead of broad ones. For example, try "adult ADHD planner" instead of "planner."
Descriptions
You already have clicks and views on your listings, but you don’t have sales yet? Your product descriptions might need some improvements to turn your visitors into buyers. Here are a couple of things that you should keep in mind when writing your descriptions:
-Highlight key details: Put the most important information first to grab your customer’s attention. Think about all the most important details that people need to know about your product.
-Keep it short: Remember that people online often have a short attention span. Instead of writing a huge wall of text, break your text into smaller paragraphs to make it easier to read. You should also use bullet points to highlight your key selling points.
-Shipping and return instructions: If you sell physical products, provide clear details on shipping, returns, and packaging. If it’s a digital product, include delivery instructions. Will it be an instant download? Will they receive a link via email?
-FAQ: Including an FAQ section in your description facilitates shoppers’ decision-making process. When customers find all the info they need right away, they are more likely to make a purchase. It also saves you time on customer service by avoiding having to answer the same questions all the time.
-Call-to-action link: Don’t forget to add a link to your shop at the end of your product description. It’s an opportunity to bring more customers to your store and increase your sales!
