Structuring a Startup for Exit Through Acquisition

Rosi Rodrigues

In 2018 Gama Academy was a prominent educational startup for fast-tracking digital skills, forming talents in design, programming, inside sales, and digital marketing. This was a 1-year project to restructure the company's operations, aiming for an exit through acquisition. During this time I served as COO, the company had 25 employees, many challenges in people, finance, and product, but a promising and valuable educational framework. Within this timeframe, we flipped the scenario and 2 years later Gama Academy was acquired by the second largest educational group in Brazil, at the valuation of 33,5 million BRL.
My responsibilities and achievements were:
Development of the business KPIs;
Implemented new company database (CRM, Financial, Tax, Accounting, Managerial, Tech Infra, etc.);
Investor's report;
Fundraising support with data room, modeling, and financial planning;
Improvements in the operational processes of its educational program;
Implemented working guidelines, and operational playbooks for all major areas;
Implemented new financial, accounting, tax, and contract operations;
Financial modeling for all new business units.
People management (onboarding, control of employees, documents, contracts, vacations, absences, time control, PDI evaluation, offboarding, etc.)
Management of the hiring process of new employees (board pipefy, interviews, proposals of work, test profiler, documents).
Corporate, labor, tax, and corporate legal management.
Review of contracts in all spheres of Gama contractual relationships (Investors, partners, employees, staff on demand, suppliers, b2b, and b2c clients).
