E.ON Next // TV Idents, Character Animation

E.ON Next, a UK-based renewable energy supplier, partnered with Channel 5, ITN, and the Met Office to launch its first-ever Energy Outlook Report. This innovative campaign gave viewers daily insights into how weather patterns shaped the UK’s renewable energy supply, helping them make smarter energy choices. Running from October 2024 to January 2025, the partnership aired three reports daily, spotlighting E.ON’s renewable solutions—everything from EV rates to heat pumps and solar panels.

To keep their brand front and center, E.ON needed a series of playful yet informative idents featuring their characters actively transforming the world from grey and gloomy to bright and sustainable. But with deadlines approaching fast and progress at a standstill, the project’s future hung in the balance.

I was brought in at the eleventh hour to rescue the project, leading production and breathing life into E.ON’s cast of quirky characters through animation and motion design. With only two days to deliver, I completed the set of idents, showcasing each character tackling renewable tasks - from fixing solar panels, to connecting turbines and installing heat pumps.

The characters all have their quirks - like any good character! - with vastly different animation approaches and movements to really highlight their characteristics. From Sun - the shining light, who hovers in the air without a care in the world; to Flash - lightning in a bottle with the most jolting and wild range of movements. By blending these unique traits with bold, colourful visuals, I created a series of idents that were both charming and memorable.

The campaign was a success! The idents passed Greenlight smoothly and aired alongside the reports, keeping brand awareness high throughout the campaign’s run.
