Project Overview
I conducted an exploratory survey in a local high school to explore the factors affecting the students' performance in Mathematics.
This was the second stage of the exploratory research after the first initiative identified some of the potential factors affecting the student's performance in mathematics.
Methods
The stratified random sampling technique was used to select participants.
Data was collected using a validated survey instrument, categorized into student- and teacher-related factors.
ANOVA was used to test for differences across the classes and visualization techniques were used to display the findings.
Findings
Results indicated that student attitude had the highest correlation with performance. Some of the teacher-related factors such as communication of expectations, among others differed significantly across the classes.
The findings, interpretations, conclusions, and recommendations were presented to the school administration and board.
